We were in California for 12 days and this was one of our best meals. We were staying at Fog Catcher Inn by the ocean and our front desk clerk asked us what kind of food/dining experience we liked and promptly recommended Madeline’s. We arrived early and our table was ready. The waiter was young, humorous, but not annoying. I had squash ravioli, and my husband had rack of lamb. He loves flaming desserts and was thrilled to enjoy a bananas foster. The small, cozy size, friendly hand-on chef/owner, and top quality food made for a very enjoyable evening.

We were travelling the PCH on holiday from the east coast. Stayed at the Fog Catcher Inn in Cambria and were recommended to Madeline’s. It was without doubt the best meal we had on the entire trip. The food was delicous, presentation imaginative and the ambience of the restaurant warm and inviting. David was gracious and warm, just like his cuisine!
This is worth a detour of Rt 1 for sure, and maybe more than just an overnight in Cambria to have a chance to go back to Madeline’s again. Wish I could have!

We celebrated our anniversary at your FINE establishment, and we couldn’t have made a better choice! The food was excellent, the ambience was great, and the servers suggestions were right on the money!

This past Thanksgiving evening I proposed to my now fiance, Grace. The both of us have traveled and dined globally, but I must say and I have said it before after every visit, ” Restaurant owners and food lovers” should make a visit over to Madeline’s as often as possible.
David takes special pride in his culinary art, the dishes are simply amazing in taste, texture, and yummy. The place in general is just right in size, style, and motif.. Check out the works of local artistes..
Its cozy, warm, small and intimate, and what else… A wine tasting bar right in the adjacent space of the dinner room..

I work at one of the nicer properties on Moonstone Beach Drive. I have had dinner there several times and it has always been amazing. I ALWAYS recommend your place to our guests’ and they always come back with glowing reviews and are thrilled by my recommendation. Your food AND service is awesome and always consistent. I will return again and again. My fav is the stuffed chicen breast and the scalloped potatoes….the veggies are always done to perfection. Thank you Dave for bringing “Big City Culinary” to Cambria. You Rock!!!

My family and I were out in Cambria for the holidays around Christmas time, and happened to hear about Madelines. What an amazing treat. The ambiance was wonderful, the food was fantastic, loved the wine shop right next door, and the service was right on.
Cannot wait to come back next year!

My husband and I make an annual trek to Cambria each December, which we have done for the past 15 years. Three years ago we had dinner at Madeline’s with some people we met in town. The meal was marginal and the restaurant did not have a very welcoming atmosphere. Needless to say we did not return, until this past December.
We were shopping in town and had two different merchants recommend Madelines for dinner. The one merchant told us that Chef David had been redoing the restaurant and that we should really give it another try. Armed with this new information we decided to give Madeline’s another try.
What a pleasant surprise and special treat it was to have dinner at Madeline’s. The food was delicious, the service fantastic and the ambience wonderful. We are hooked and plan to make it a staple on our annual trek.
I do need to apologize at this point to Chef David. While we were finishing our meal we asked to see the Chef and we relayed this story to him. I told him that I would go on his website and write a review of our experience. Well, time marched on and here it is June and I am finally writing this review. My apologies Chef for being a slacker and I also want to aplogize to all those that did not get to read this before making their dining choices in Cambria. I feel bad that some may have missed out on a fabulous dining experience.

My wife and I experienced a very special and wonderful evening of fine dining on Tuesday June 2, 2009. The ambiance,food presentation,. food quality and quanity were superb. The staff and service were very attentive with great timing and discretion. As a professional food and beverage consultant, I would with great confidence, highly recomend Madelines. We are definately looking forward to our next visit.

Incredible!!!! From the minute we walked in everything was perfect! From the service to the music! Outstanding food and our only disappointment was that Wednesday was out last night in Cambria and we couldn’t come to your restaurant two nights in a row, because you were closed. Also a thank you to Rick from the Pelican Cove hotel for a great recommendation!

My wife and had the most amazing dinner last night… Started with the scallops WOW. We also really like the Jack Creek Pinot Noir. My duck was fantastic and my wife loved the Gumbo… Keep up the great job..

What a wonderful experience we had at Madeline’s on Friday, October 9, 2009. We celebrated our wedding dinner and had the best service food. Cody was our server and looked after us, as if we were royalty (even helping us find a ride to and from the restaurant). The food was fresh, tasty and full of variety. We just had the most amazing dinner and to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary. We started with goat cheese for an appetizer. Then we had halibut and stuffed chicken – fabulous! For dessert, we had all three choices. Wow! What a meal! Many thanks to Chef David and all of his staff, both in front and behind the scenes.

My wife and I have just returned home to the UK after two weeks touring California. We ate in some of the most famous restaurants, but the best food and service were had at Madeline’s. Cambria Wines was recommended by a shopkeeper in Cambria. She gave us a card with a message written on the back,
“Take extra care of our customers, Thanks Sheila”.
When we presented the card to Kelly, he didn’t know anyone by that name.
It didn’t matter, he treated us graciously. He did his job, ate his sandwich and made us laugh a lot. The owner David explained his situation with his childrens shoes, so we were more than happy to make reservations for dinner to help him out. We had the Lamb Porterhouse and the Seafood Gumbo. Both would make you very happy indeed. I love the way a person could buy a bottle of wine, leave it there, and have it opened later for your dinner. I have recommended this wine room and restaurant to anyone that will listen. I know we will be back as soon as time permits.

To celebrate our 25th anniversary, my wife and I spent two night and three day at the El Colibri Hotel, and through their advice, dined Saturday evening at Madeline’s.
We both ordered the Filet Mignon dinner which was superb. Not only was it done to perfection, but the cut was of generous size. The vegetables, salad, potatoes, and dessert, were fantastic.
We both agreed the filet was the best we can rembember ever having, and we’ve been to some of the finest restaurants in Orange County.
The service couldn’t have been better, and the next time we visit Cambria, your restaurant will definitely be on our list of places to go.

Our Christmas gift to each other this year was a Cambria trip staying at Sand Pebbles Inn and Christmas dinner at Madelines. Madelines did a great job preparing a traditional Christmas dinner, and recommended a great wine to accompany the meal. We enjoyed the wine choice so much I ordered another two bottles from their wine shop after returning home, UPS delivered them two days later. Great Food, Great Service, Great Ambiance, thank you for making our Christmas special. We will be back soon !

Dear David and Staff,
What a fantastic dining experience.
The Ceasar salad was the best we have ever had. My wife had the Fillet Mignon and I had the Duck for main courses. Both were outstanding!!
We were on a round the world trip and we dined at some of the best Restaurants on five Continents. Madelines definitely rates amongst the top three.
We will be back January 2013.
